Why I took Mgt-H

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Frankly, my REAL first choices were Psychology, Lit, and Creative Writing.

But seeing as those 3 choices (except maybe Psych but I don't want to spend the rest of my life listening to nutcases other than myself) do not mean instant $$$ (nor any $$$, in my opinion) I decide to take a course that would suit me (or rather, my financial aspirations) better.

So why did I take Mgt-H again?

Kasi yun daw pinakamahirap. ;)

Oo, alam ko, feeler ako.

why i'm going crazy

the first thing you get to feel when you're in college is how everything seems lax when you're not in class, but once you enter that classroom, you feel like the world has suddenly become incomprehensible to your ears and you're staring at aliens speaking another language.

but you get over that eventually, and that's when you evolve into an alien yourself.

the second thing you get to feel when you're in college is how some days feel extremely frustrating, and some days are just plain boring.

but even on boring days, you find yourself running out of time.

the third thing you get to feel when you're in college is how your teachers are WAY UP THERE, while you're nothing more than a puny speck on the ground, no bigger than a molecule. no, make that an atom. much unlike high school when sometimes you feel you could be teaching the class instead.

that's where i am right now. if i start evolving, i'll be sure to post observations here.

sabaw pa ako.

Jinnie icon

Thursday, January 24, 2008

I made a new icon!

I *think* compared to the icons I made before, this one is a lot better when it comes to quality, and I used a lot of new techniques such as color curves, etc. (actually color curves lang. >.<) So anyway, it's of AKANISHI JIN of KAT-TUN. :D The quote is, of course, stolen from Calvin of Fahrenheit. >.<

I might cross-post this to Livejournal communities... :D because as you can probably see (esp if you're a livejournal frequenter) it kind of follows the livejournal template for icons (whatever that is)

I'll make more! hehehe

Because I'm not as shameless as I claimed to be (well at least I hope not)

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

I deleted the last post. You know why. :D

(I actually hate deleting posts because if I mention them in a later post (like I did here) and then after several years I'll get confused when rereading my blog.)

But really. There are lots of reasons why YOU should study in Ateneo. Like, for example, the highly challenging subjects, the free cuts, the teachers who although cause the subjects to be highly challenging, also cause the free cuts (that's why you can never hate an Ateneo teacher too much). Of course, the teachers in Ateneo (well SOME at least) are also competent and almost overqualified for the subjects they teach. Being a college professor doesn't really pay that well. More than high school or elementary teachers, definitely, but it doesn't make you rich. It is more out of the sheer satisfaction of teaching that pushes these teachers to teach and share their truckloads of knowledge. (SOME at least, have truckloads. The others probably couldn't fill a teaspoon. It all boils down to luck--whether you get the good teachers, or you get the lousy ones.)

This post is supposed to convince you guys (at least those who are in the 4th year and are as of now, still undecided whether they should study at Ateneo or at other schools) to study at Ateneo, but it ended up being me ranting about the teachers in Ateneo. But seriously, it IS all about luck. I happen to be lucky last sem for getting all the great teachers, but this sem, the only great teachers I have would have to be ***, ***, and ***. (What? You think I'll put their names out here for everyone to discover? I don't think so!)

If it's enrollment already, and you guys (at least those who by then have already decided to study in Ateneo) have trouble choosing subjects/teachers/schedules, don't hesitate to ask me! :D I know (at least I think I do) enough about freshman teachers in Ateneo to be able to dish out some useful advice. Actually you can't choose subjects in your first year except NatSci and maybe for some History, or Psychology, but at least I can tell you if you got a terror teacher or and easy A teacher. :D Oh wait, except maybe English or Lit because Ateneo has dozens of English teachers and I know only a handful--most probably not enough to know all of your teachers but you know. We'll see. :D

Gotta run, Math Long Exam#3 tomorrow. :D

Poetry time!

“Tomatoes” by Stephen Dobyns

A woman travels to Brazil for plastic
surgery and a face-lift. She is sixty
and has the usual desire to stay pretty.
Once she is healed, she takes her new face
out on the streets of Rio. A young man
with a gun wants her money. Bang, she’s dead.
The body is shipped back to New York,
but in the morgue there is a mix-up. The son
is sent for. He is told that his mother
is one of these ten different women.
Each has been shot. Such is modern life.
He studies them all but can’t find her.
With her new face, she has become a stranger.
Maybe it’s this one, maybe it’s that one.
He looks at their breasts. Which ones nursed him?
He presses their hands to his cheek.
Which ones consoled him? He even tries
climbing onto their laps to see which
feels most familiar but the coroner stops him.
Well, says the coroner, which is your mother?
They all are, says the young man, let me
take them as a package. The coroner hesitates,
then agrees. Actually, it solved a lot of problems.
The young man has the ten women shipped home,
then cremates them all together. You’ve seen
how some people have a little urn on the mantel?
This man has a huge silver garbage can.
In the spring, he drags the garbage can
out to the garden and begins working the teeth,
the ash, the bits of bone into the soil.
Then he plants tomatoes. His mother loved tomatoes.
They grow straight from seed, so fast and big
that the young man is amazed. He takes the first
ten into the kitchen. In their roundness,
he sees his mother’s breasts. In their smoothness
he finds the consoling touch of her hands.
Mother, mother, he cries, and flings himself
on the tomatoes. Forget about the knife, the fork,
the pinch of salt. Try to imagine the filial
starvation, think of his ravenous kisses.

*Notes: This is actually a fun poem to write a short paper about. At dahil mayabang ako (or baka dahil tanga ako) I decided to post the short paper here in my blog for the whole world to see and admire (and insult and criticize. oh wait, di nga pala palaging negative ang criticism. cge, criticize negatively na lang). Feel ko lang ito yung pinaka-ok na short paper na nasulat ko ever for Lit. All the others suck worse than this one, so you can imagine how bad the others would be. I'm also expecting some people *ahem ahem* especially the "English masters" *ahem ahem* to comment kahit negative. Or at least if nahihiya kayo magcomment sa short paper ko, at least comment about the poem, because it's a beautiful poem, and an easy one at that.

And here's the paper. :D

There doesn’t seem to be a real, sure way of defining what is and is not a poem. Certain poems are written in prose form, but claim to be poems, while some poems seem to be merely prose in disguise.

In “Tomatoes”, the author Stephen Dobyns utilizes the narrative form of poetry to tell the story of a woman who undergoes plastic surgery, only to be killed immediately after. Her son then has trouble identifying her among ten different women who have all been shot, so he decides to take home all their remains and grows tomatoes while using the remains as fertilizers. Although the poem, at first glance, looks nothing more than a story with line breaks randomly inserted in it, what makes this narrative poem a poem is how it tells a story on the surface while having a much deeper meaning underneath the simple words. In fact, the simplicity of the poem is almost humorous in how lightly it talks of the topic at hand. For example, in the sixth line, it says “Bang, she’s dead.” without the least bit of pity or sadness. While this might feel cold and apathetic to some, it actually gives more emphasis to the poem’s message.

What is the poem’s message anyway? The first part of the poem, where the women travels to Brazil for cosmetic surgery, gets killed and cannot be identified by her son, and the second part, in which the son plants tomatoes, seem to have no connection with each other.

Beneath the seemingly absurd tale, however, lies the true meaning of the poem. Notice the parallelism between the two parts, especially the repeated mention of the mother’s breasts, and the consoling touch of her hands. In the first part, the son is detached from his mother’s presence. He had no idea which one his mother is, and so being the filial son that he is, he took home all the remains, even those of the other women, just so he could keep his mother’s. Yet he was able to solve the problem of being unable to identify his mother’s remains. He buried all the remains into the ground and grew tomatoes from them, and in the tomatoes he was once again reunited with his mother. As the last line tells us, “Try to imagine the filial starvation, think of his ravenous kisses.” Through the tomatoes, the son was able to fulfill his filial duty and receive his mother’s love.
BTW, di ba may nagsasabing mayayabang ang mga taga-Ateneo? Well. It's true. XD

Yay

Joke of the day:
A priest and pastor from the local parishes are standing by the side of the road holding up a sign that reads, "The End is Near! Turn yourself around now before it's too late!" They planned to hold up the sign to each passing car.

"Leave us alone you religious nuts!" yelled the first driver as he sped by.

From around the curve they heard screeching tires and a big splash.

"Do you think," said one clergy to the other, "we should just put up a sign that says 'Bridge Out' instead?"

~0~0~0~

Yay. :D dapat ginagawa ko ngayon ang lit paper ko at hindi dapat ako nagbblog... but then again, who cares? :P

it's Monday again... which means I got to see Chestnutty after two days! (Kasi pag weekend iniiwan lang namin sa greenhouse since the plants won't die naman if not watered for 2 days. And of course, I watered Chestnutty a lot nung Friday so that it won't dry up :) Chestnutty grew a grand total of 2 centimeters. :D It also grew a weed, which my blockmate pulled out. Ang cute pa naman nung weed.

yeah sometimes i feel like i love Chestnutty a little bit too much. :D

so anyway, LotM nung Saturday, I went in the afternoon hanggang matapos ung program. Nanalo si Tobit Narciso of Pisay. :) read Krizia's post for more info. :D

Comics time, yay.

Meet Chestnutty!

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Chestnutty is the plant I'm taking care of for ES (Environmental Science, this is the last time I'm going to be saying this)

It is a Malabar chestnut, which I bought at the Ateneo Plant Store (it's not really called that, it's just a little area in Ateneo where you can buy plants for ES for higher prices that they're usually sold for. ;) Just so you know, you can buy plants at Ace Hardware. My friend got a santan plant there for like, P20. and it's a FLOWERING plant which should be more expensive. Go figure.) for P35 (see? overpricing ang Ateneo!)

Well, not that my Chestnutty isn't a flowering plant. It does. It even grows chestnuts!

Wala pa akong picture of Chestnutty because I'm camera-less so I might just bum one off a blockmate and take a photo of Chestnutty for everyone to see. Chestnutty's currently 22 cm tall and 25 cm wide, btw. :D

i love my plant. *hug*

My To Do List

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

  1. English: Bibiliography. At least one of each classification: Book, Journal, Online, Newspaper, Interview/Survey. Due Friday.
  2. Lit: Write script for video for group report about the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Due asap.
  3. Math: LT+midterms next week = X.X
  4. Environmental Science: I don't want to talk about it.
  5. Fil: Write paper about classmate's life story based on a sheet of paper with vague useless information.
  6. ES Lab: Take care of my plant, Chestnutty! :D This is the only thing I'm happy about (because my plant is cute! Haha... It's actually a money tree, aka Malabar chestnut, that's why it's called Chestnutty. Yay!) except maybe Lit but I'm too lazy to do anything about it. >.<
  7. Intact: Psh.

I wanna watch Hachimitsu to Kuroba and 1 Pound no Fukuin and Binbo Danshi!!! WAHH!

Please pray for my laptop. It is still being repaired (or not, depending on its repairability. may word bang ganun?)... I'm praying it's not dead. Because if it is, then i'll NEVER be able to watch Hachimitsu no Kuroba and 1 Pound no Fukuin and Binbo Danshi!!!

Yukan Club (JDrama Review)

Sunday, January 13, 2008

Welcome to St. President Academy, one of the best and most prestigious schools in all of Japan. Well, it would be, if it wasn't for those meddling kids.

The Yukan Club is more of a clique than a club, really, and at first glance, you might wonder how these six people who couldn't be more different became friends in the first place.

The drama isn't so much plot-driven as it is character-driven. It's the characters that drag you into ultimate attachment to the drama. They're colorful characters, exaggerations of their respective personalities, and that's what makes them amusing and funny.(clockwise from top left: Miroku, Seishiro, Yuri, Bido, Karen, Noriko. medyo obvious naman who's who from the pics. :D)

First of all, there's Shochikubai Miroku (last name, first name) who's the main character of the series as it concentrates most on him than on the other characters. He's street smart, tough, and brilliant when it comes to mechanical stuff. He's also the son of the (ridiculously useless) police commissioner and probably for that reason, has a lot of connections, including gangs, triads, and his own personal minions. He has a strong sense of loyalty towards his friends and even his parents. He also happens to be a great fighter and rides a motorcycle. The best thing about him though is that he's an extremely sensitive guy and is easily driven to tears. Don't you love him already? (Played by Akanishi Jin of KAT-TUN, another reason to love this character. Some say it wasn't well casted but I haven't read the manga on which the drama is based so I wouldn't know. Some say Jin can't act. Are you kidding me? NO COMMENT!)

Kikumasamune Seishiro (Yokoyama Yu of Kanjani8) is the student body president who's both smart and good in fighting. He's a serious guy (Yu himself is a funny man though) who knows his priorities. His family also owns a hospital, so he regularly rides an ambulance to school. >.<>.<. He's also supposedly a playboy and has a lot of female admirers. He's also a bit of a narcissist. Bido is actually pretty useless when it comes to fighting. Now the girls! :D Kenbishi Yuri (Minami) is the only daughter of the really really rich Kenbishi Corporation which his dad owns. She eats a lot and is a tomboy, and she also fights really well, with her trademark move, the "Flying Kick". She's very athletic and has a lot of female admirers who give her food as tokens of their admiration. She steals the other members' food. >.<

Hakushika Noriko (Kashii Yu) is the manhater who instinctively slaps any guy who touches her (but probably only those with romantic intentions toward her). Seishiro is a childhood friend of hers and they are really close, often seen playing chess together (and Noriko DOES beat Seishiro despite his intelligence). Noriko has a lot of male admirers but doesn't care about any of them. She can also perform traditional tea ceremony (because her mother comes from a family that performs tea ceremony) and her dad is a famous Japanese painter.

Kizakura Karen (Suzuki Emi) is a bit like Bido, only female. She isn't as narcissistic though, and her goal in life is to be married to a rich successful husband. She really takes care of her looks and also hates having less love letters than Noriko.

And there you have the 6 awesome people who make up Yukan Club. It's not only fun to watch them, it's also great to see how close they are and how they stick together through thick and thin. They aren't static characters either, throughout the 12 episodes they face challenges, change and mature.

The plot is unrealistic, ridiculous and out of reach, but these characters bring the whole thing together and that's what makes "Yukan Club" special.

"Turning impossibilities into possibilities... that's what Yukan Club is about."

hello

Belated Happy Birthday to my mommy! :D

(her birthday was yesterday, january 12.)

wla sa bahay dad ko ngayon that's why i have the chance to use his computer and blog and ym. :D not the ACTUAL ym though, kasi magagalit cya if i dload "trash" so i'm using web messenger.

but anyway, clickie!

life in Ateneo and a bit of fangirling

Friday, January 11, 2008

the other day i listed down on one of my notebooks (i have dozens of notebooks other than school notebooks, for some reason) a bunch of stuff i want to talk about in my blog. but i got lazy, so never mind. :D

nakita ko na ung Director's List! Pinost kasi sa labas ng OAA kundi baka after 20 years di ko pa rin matitingnan. haha. ang layo kasi ng Blue Eagle Gym eh. Nandun ka Krizia. Nandun din kayo, Candice, Ely and Christian. Congrats guys! Hope you decide to study in Ateneo! And if you do eventually decide to study in Ateneo, be prepared for a lot of stress.

Honestly nung high school I never experienced any stress. Siguro kung meron man, worry lang, or whatever the lighter version of stress is, but not stress as in kailangan-ng-Stresstabs-kundi-mamamatay-ka stress. Nagsimula ang "true stress" (stupid sounding) dahil sa history (I think) or one of my other less evil yet still evil subjects (although history gave me the worst headaches) last sem. buti na lang this sem bumawas na (but really, simula pa lang. baka mga next next week simula na yan (kasi midterms namin sa math next next week)). Hay math. Bakit kasi nung high school di ako nag-aral. Ayan tuloy. Nahirapan ako ngayon.

Bakit ako nagrarant ngaun? i don't even feel bad.

actually i feel bad kasi ang tagal ko nang hindi nag popost dito and i'm supposed to do that often so you guys will know all about me and my life (not really but i'm wishing it.)

oh yeah. my laptop is possibly dead forever. and no i won't be bought a new one. WAHHHHHHHHH!

now i feel bad. like, really.

i need music.

this is Fahrenheit's new album Two-faced Fahrenheit. In the first song "Xin Wo" we find out just how bad Wu Zun's singing is! :P (i'm not anti-Wu Zun, okay? i like him, just not his singing and his acting. and well, nasawa na rin ako sa looks nya but i think he's a nice person. that's all that matters, right?) Arron is awesome. :) i'm saving money for the album... first time i'm saving for something so expensive... haha :D i wish it will be worth it. kilala nyo ba Fahrenheit? You should! I mean Chinese cya and it's a lot more popular in SSHS compared to all the other people i fangirl about.

oh hey do you guys know that my multiply theme is Super Junior? (no you don't)

the reason why i'll be posting less

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

my laptop is X.X

it has been sent for repairs, so as for now, para akong squatter na sisingit lang sa computer ng shobe ko kapag di nya ginagamit. buti na lang maaga akong umuuwi so i have the few hours between the time i get home and the time she gets home.

school has been rather depressing lately... haha

di ko pa nakikita ung results ng ACET sa Blue Eagle Gym so i don't know pa kung sino director's list. sorry krizia. baka alam mo na, haha, sorry, ang tagal ko.

AND Lord of the Math on the 19th! hopefully makakapunta ako, Saturday naman. fingers crossed! :)

A year-ender thingy (actually dapat year-starter na)

Tuesday, January 1, 2008

Medyo nonsense. bear with me na lang. sa tagal kong di nagbblog ng disente.

Copy and paste the first paragraph from your first entry of each month this past year. What better way to sum up your year and make a countdown to '08!

January: So.... well, Krizia's plan may be desperate but it works!! Thank you! :D HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

February: Okay, so today I... I went to school. Felt sick. Threw up all over my stuff and stank for the rest of the day. I think everyone smelled/smelt it but were too gracious to actually mention anything. Except for one person who said "It smells like puke." -_-,

March: At last people are tagging! Haha... hey you other people... tag too okay? Sorry for the confusion... I guess it really wasn't clear where the navigation was.

April: Premonition. the movie, yeah. we watched it on Sunday in the Mall of Asia.

May: someone called me this morning. as in, tulog pa ako tumawag na. magym daw ako "maya-maya". that was about half an hour ago. problem is, i don't know who called! :( now I'm online in ym and nobody's talking to me so what gives?? hay buhay. oh well. i'll just sit here till 11 and see if anyone cares. *ahem* [I skipped the actual first post because it's worthless]

June: Checking my block... and other people's blocks... and it feels like a setup... lalo na ung mga nasa AMF tska ME... It's a relief din na may kilala ako in my blog... like, 4 people... so well, HUGE sigh of relief (redundant)

July: I'm currently in the RMT computer lab thingy (I don't know what it's called, but I'm pretty sure it's not Rizal Mini Theater) and this keyboard is kind of annoying because when I press the Shift key on the right it gets stuck so I have to go back and delete delete all the capital letters and retype and that is really quite tedious... [Again, I skipped the actual first. Same reason.]

August: You might want to read this. It most likely concerns you. [link] See? Now, the thing is, some people aren't believing it, but hey, who cares? Pag sinabing wlang pasok, come on, man! Why do you want to contradict it?? Sweet... walang pasok kahapon sa Ateneo, wala uli pasok sa Friday... it's God's gift to mankind! (Or rather, Atenean-kind)

September: I don't really feel like blogging now, but I just have to let out all the happiness!!!!!!!!! WHEEEE!!! It's Hana Kimi-induced happiness, actually. Heeheeheeheehee... it feels like a sugar rush, but it's different! I want to screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam!!! Parang nakikilig na hindi. Haha... I need to have someone to share all this happiness with, so watch Hana Kimi, please? :D

October: 291st post na pala to. in a few days (or malay nyo, today mismo) magiging 300th na yan... :) but anyway, just want to share something with you guys...nung fun run (which is yesterday), my left thumb fingernail (or thumbnail) was almost torn out of my thumb when i was tying my shoelaces (due to my own stupidity). well not really. a bit lang. pero nagkasugat, at dumugo rin, so it hurt! but now it doesn't thanks to the power of platelets! now you guys and I myself know that I don't have diabetes or any other sickness that reduces platelets or something like that.

November: I'm sick of putting labels. Yech. There are tooooooo many.... haha... At first I was putting General labels, then later on I got more detailed so I went back and made everything detailed and now it's TOO detailed. I'll finish labeling next year. But for now I'll label all my posts properly![next paragraph] Song sharing! "Wonder Boy" by KPop group Super Junior (they have 13 members! o.O) theme song for the movie "Attack on the Pin-up Boys" which I think I already mentioned before. 2nd song is Haeng Bok (Happiness or Xing Fu in Chinese) by them also. :)

December: Song Sharing Time! This time, though, instead of only mp3 clips, we have the entire videos! :D They're all in this embedded player thing. :D

QUICK SUMMARY OF THE YEAR IN BLOGGING AS SHOWN IN THE EXCERPTS ABOVE: I cheated a little bit actually, because apparently I have really erratic blogging habits because I could have as little as one word in a paragraph, so what I did was that I kind of mashed together several paragraphs for the excerpts to make sense. Anyway, according to my blog, during the first few months of 2007 I was kind of crazy and random and that could be because I was graduating. My summer seemed VERY boring. (I don't remember anything at all. Oh wait, I went to Taiwan and didn't blog much about it. o.O) Then pagpasok sa Ateneo, life seemed to be again, random and crazy, but much less until sometime September when the fangirling began. October was unlucky, apparently, then fangirling galore. In short, 2007 was quite eventful. :D

- parang meron pero di ko na maalala. edit ko na lang pag naisip ko na.

Where were you when 2007 began?
- at home
